As we all are human beings (or at least we are supposed to be so), we cannot get stuck with only one artist or band, and we must listen to anothers in order to have a wider range of favourite music. That's why I opened this topic, just to let the others know more about the other bands and artist we listen to. I start with some of mines...
Mike Oldfield: Acclaimed british multi-instrumentist with more than 25 albums released on his solo career since 1973. Who doesn't know The Exorcist soundtrack?. Well... he made it and recorded it fully (all the instruments but two: drums and viola) being only a 19 years old adolescent. It tells us that we are in front of a true genius. I could recommend all of his discography because he has so many different kind of records (from symphonic rock to electronic, passing through pop, soundtracks and many other genres). Recommended records: Amarok, Ommadawn, Tubular Bells, Five miles out, Voyager and Discovery.
Lene Marlin: Norwegian singer and songwriter with a particular warm, calm and lovely voice. Easy listening tracks travelling between pop-rock and jazz with many interesting arrangements and many sellings on Scandinavia and middle-Europe. She had a hit many years ago called Unforgivable sinner that broke all the lists in Spain and many other countries and before that nothing was known about here in my country. She keeps composing and singing/playing guitar live in some festivals and small gigs in the countries listed above. Recommended songs: Unforgivable sinner, Faces, Never to know, Another day, So I see and How would it be.
Muse: A poweful british band with a weird conception and understanding of music in general. They can do ballads, fast songs and middle-tempos and they still have their own sound after 4 records released. Screaming guitars, outstanding pianos, incredible basslines and perfect (althought simple) drums all combined with very distinctive vocals. The result is a progressive rock sound with many baroque influences and a nice and unique brand of sound. Recommended songs: Invincible, Bliss, New born, Hysteria, Plug-in baby and Map of the problematique.

I was in love with Lene a few years ago, when "Unforgivable Sinner" had a huge success here in Italy. "Another day" is one of my favourite songs, it makes me smile... I love her voice and I appreciate very much that she differ from other young girls making music. I think she is very talented. My first advice is for Dropkick Murphys. They're a band from Boston, mixing irish music with punk. They're very powerful and very talented musicians. If you like irish music, give them a chance. Recommended songs: Forever, The Spicy McHaggis Jig, For Boston, The Wild Rover. Video:

The Young Dubliners, Wolfstone and The Pogues tried to do it before... Let's take a look to these Dropkick Murphys.

I am currently listening to Paul Westerberg... Besterberg: The Best of Paul Westerberg (Rhino, 2005) is my latest addiction hehe Wikipedia: Paul Westerberg is the former lead singer and songwriter of The Replacements, one of the seminal indie rock bands of the 1980s. The Replacements were one of the driving forces behind indie-rock in the 1980s. Their drunken disregard for societal norms, and their heartbreaking chords and lyrics made everyone think they were the Next Big Thing. Unfortunately, they never translated critical success into commercial sales, in spite of their faithful followers who seemed to cash in on the same formula. After disbanding the Replacements in 1991, Westerberg disappeared for a year before returning with two songs on the soundtrack for the grunge-inspired film Singles. Soon, he had completed his first solo album, 14 Songs, on Reprise Records released to mixed reviews. Three years later, Westerberg released Eventually, which met with poor sales. Westerberg quit the major label circuit, and disappeared for three years before staging a major comeback with two records released simultaneously, Stereo and Mono (Mono being released under his alter ego Grandpaboy). They were acclaimed as his best works since the Replacements' Pleased to Meet Me, and Westerberg became increasingly prolific, releasing Dead Man Shake, Come Feel Me Tremble and Folker all within the next two years, to critical success.

i like lene too Blackmore's Night is an Anglo-American Renaissance-inspired folk rock band led by Ritchie Blackmore (electric guitar and acoustic guitar) and Candice Night (lyricist and lead vocals). History The origins of the band lie in 1990 when Candice Night was working at a local New York rock music radio station. She first encountered Ritchie Blackmore, then with Deep Purple, at a soccer game in which he was playing. The two became romantically involved and discovered that they shared a passionate interest in the Renaissance. After leaving Deep Purple in 1993 and recording the album Stranger in Us All in 1995, on which Night contributed backing vocals and some of the lyrics, Blackmore became interested in the idea of bringing Renaissance music to a contemporary audience. Night's personality and singing ability made her the natural choice as "frontwoman". In 1997 the pair were ready to launch the band, the name being a pun of their own names, and which would consist of themselves plus session musicians. ... more on wiki http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blackmore%27s_Night

I've heard a lot about Blackmore's Night but I never gave them a chance... Maybe this is the day to do it.
By the way, Kerrie... Paul Westerberg seems to be interesting too.
Let's check something about these...

yeah i haven't listened to them much but they seem like a good band. We have here something like that but there were a lot more people there 10 i guess with some really medieval instruments. They are called Ansambl renesans, i think they are from belgrade and they have cover a lot realy old folk song from ex-yu (they are not playing rock just well traditional but maybe somehow adapted to sound better). I had 1 CD and it was really cool, one of the best things i found here from that type of music i looked on the net but there is no vids or anything to show ya just this but they are good http://www.muzickeskole.edu.yu/RENESANS/24.01.07.htm

I just wanted to recommend some music from my country...it's been hard...almost all sucks! Maybe this sucks too, but besides of tango, it's the only uruguayan music i listen to. The band it's called "Dr. Rocka" ( http://www.drrocka.com/), just a rock band with a female singer. She's very charismatic and has the strangest voice hehe Some songs from their last record could be downloaded from the band's website. Salu2, Cranfandy

The only group I could recommend and still trust is Within Temptation. All their CDs and bsides are great, they are one of the greatest groups nowadays! Their Mother Earth is simply perfect...
Soon or late, all my groups have dissapointed me somehow... Starting by Nightwish, whose "Once" wasn't as good as other CDs, and now with pathetic new songs and a new singer that can't play the old ones because she damages them... I don't know how will sound Elis with the new singer, but all their stuff is splendid anyway! Theatre of Tragedy are also great, but with Liv... they have a new singer too, who is not bad at all, but I don't like the album where she sings. I think it's just a likes' bussiness... You'll like Dover if you listen to the old CDs... now it's disco music
You'll like all of these groups if you search the old CDs... many groups change their style and usually, their styles go worse...
Of course I'd also recommend Celtic Music: Luar Na Lubre and Enya above all!
