I think now we all have listened to The Low Network EP we can do some reviews about it. It's up to me to start sharing mine:
-------------------------------------------------------
Wasted - The most commercial track on the EP, with a mellow and warm sound fluctuating between harmonic changes and a Dolores-like intonation in the vocals. It has also a reference to
Björk in the overflowing backing vocals that creates an atmosphere full of brightness. The instrumental side is constantly changing with layers and layers of nice and evoking soundscapes.
Skyline - The lovely voice of Jennifer flows over a groovy and dark base that imprints a pleasant sensation full calmness brought by the well-played keyboards and guitars. A very well-produced track that could be a hit (not in sales, cause it's not commercial at all, although some sectors could love it, if it were promoted properly in TV's and radios). Maybe the best track in the EP.
Hollow - Very interesting vocals, maybe influenced by The Cranberries first stage's B-Sides (
Them,
What you were), and also very similar to
Venus Hum style. It has also a cool game between synthesizers and guitars, all of it timed in with
jazzy drums and a nice piano that delivers a curious shade of melancholy and takes you to another place.
Overall: Being an EP with few songs I think that the results are fairy good and they can do a lovely whole CD... The new sounds brought by Fergal, Jennifer and Kieran are innovative and full of very interesting nuances and textures. Considering that Fergal used to do quite different music with The Cranberries, it shows that it's very interested in the research of new sounds and kinds of music to be done. The work made by Jennifer and Kieran is also great, and I hope them to work on more songs and release a CD soon... And why not involving themselves in a small european tour?. 7'5/10.
