Playing Drums Again Soon
Hello there, Apologies for not updating in a while.. I've been locked away in the studio for quiet sometime now but am nearly finished the new Walter Mitty and The Realists album. There are just some small bits and pieces to record, some final mixing and then we're done. It sounds fantastic and energetic and they are the most decent and hard-working band I've met in years, I've really enjoyed the whole experience. On Saturday there is a new Limerick band named 'The Last Days Of Death Country' coming in to record . I've seen them live and they really rock, loud and heavy, but with plenty of melody and powerful vocals. Keep an eye on their myspace page. I've been asked to play drums with a new band and will be doing a gig with them in November. I can't wait, it's been five years since my last gig!! Although I enjoy working as a producer/engineer, nothing in this world compares to playing a live gig. I'll post the venue and date etc. closer to the time. That's it for now, Take care, Fergal.

VELVETBOX - Official Press Release Current mood: rejuvenated
SIGNAL HILL RECORDS THURSDAY, OCTOBER 9TH, 2008
It is with great pleasure that Signal Hill Records announces that Fergal Lawler, the powerful Irish drummer from the Cranberries, is joining popular Canadian musical group, Velvetbox.
Lawson Carroll, singer of Velvetbox and Mr. Lawler have been communicating through Myspace, Facebook and email over the past several months discussing particulars surrounding this venture.
Carroll, originally a Newfoundlander with Irish heritage, now lives in Canada's capital city of Ottawa, Ontario. He has built an all-star lineup also featuring Phil White on bass, and Daryl Deskin on guitars, both from the ultra sauve Montreal band, 'Brighton'.
When reached for comment, Lawler said, "Lawson, Phil and Daryl are excellent musicians. I love the power and melody in the songs, and I cannot wait to play them live. I am delighted with the direction we're headed and am very proud to be a member of Velvetbox." And to solidify that the feeling is mutual, Carroll stated, "We are truly honoured to be working with Fergal. He is a very talented musician with an exquisite touch, who can also when required, play his drums into the ground!"
As momentum grows in the Velvetbox camp, so too is industry interest. After winning the Canadian National Song Writing Competition, having songs featured in movies and working with world renowned producers, the buzz is definitely gaining momentum. Now, with the recent developments, Velvetbox finds itself poised for international success.
With the suits of the music industry paying very close attention these days,Velvetbox sets out to fulfill the many showcase requests that they have received. Fact is, there appears to be a bidding war brewing.
Velvetbox plays an industry showcase at Zaphod Beeblebrox in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada on Thursday, November 27, 2008. Advance tickets $10, at the door $12. Please note, this show will sell out, so tickets should be purchased quickly.
Tickets are available, on line, through www.ticketweb.ca by calling 1-888-222-6608 or by request through www.velvetbox.ca

Thursday, December 04, 2008 Home from Canada
Hey there, Well, I'm back from my excursion to Canada and slightly jet-lagged! I really enjoyed myself over there and met some fantastic and hospitable people, but unfortunately there was no 'magic'. We did a few days rehearsal and had the gig on thursday. I was more excited than nervous before the show but calmed down once I got up on the stage. It was a buzz being back behind the kit and I felt very comfortable and thouroughly enjoyed playing again but if the spark isn't there then there's no point in continuing, so.... I'm keeping my eyes and ears open for a new band to play with. In the meantime I'm back behind the sounddesk going over some final mixes for 'walter mitty and the realists'. The album is sounding incredible and I'm very proud to be a part of it. I've also started producing a new album for 'the last days of death country'. They are a powerful Limerick band that sound a little like 'Perfect Circle' or early 'Pearl Jam' and they are a brilliant bunch of people too, so all is good. I'm off to the local forrest tomorrow with the family to pick up our christmas tree and then it will be a cozy night in front of the fire watching the 'grey's anatomy' boxed set I brought back from Canada! Take care, Fergal.

Sad news indeed. I really liked Velvetbox's songs, especially "And I Like A Candle Burn."

Home from Canada
Hey there,
Well, I'm back from my excursion to Canada and slightly jet-lagged! I really enjoyed myself over there and met some fantastic and hospitable people. Lawson, Phil and Daryl and their families were welcoming and supportive. We did a few days rehearsal and had the gig on Thursday. I was more excited than nervous before the show but calmed down once I got up on the stage. It was a buzz being back behind the kit and I felt very comfortable and thoroughly enjoyed playing again.
I am really busy with the production side of things so I'll be concentrating on that for the forseeable future, but I wish Phil all the best with 'the violent drag'...........
http://www.myspace.com/theviolentdrag
and Daryl with 'yul'......... http://www.myspace.com/yul
And last but not least Mr. Lawson Caroll the man in front and behind of velvetbox.......
http://www.myspace.com/velvetboxmusic ....It was a pleasure to play music with you.
So, I'm back behind the sound desk going over some final mixes for 'walter mitty and the realists'.
I'm off to the local forrest tomorrow with the family to pick up our christmas tree and then it will be a cozy night in front of the fire watching the 'grey's anatomy' boxed set I brought back with me! Take care,
Fergal.

Last week Fergal had updated his myspaceThursday, May 07, 2009 The last Days... Hello there, I haven't written anything for a while as I've been engrossed in recording etc. so my apologies for that. The Walter Mitty and the Realists album is all finished and they are in the process of designing a sleeve and making videos and all that stuff. Check out their website for more news. I have been working my ass off with The Last Days of Death Country too. The songs are sounding incredible, really big and powerful. They are a great bunch of people and enjoy having a laugh. We had some free time last week and they were showing me some hilarious 'Saturday Night Live' shit on youtube.... I have a new found respect for Justin Timberlake! In my little bit of spare time I've been working with a local singer and multi instumentalst named Sile www.myspace.com/siandharp She has a fantastic voice and some quirky but endearing songs so I'm dying to get stuck into the tracks we've recorded so far. I've also been playing drums a lot as I'm hoping to get out on the road later this year, if I can find the right band!! I've been playing lots of 'Chilli Peppers', Kings of Leon, Radiohead, Bat for Lashes and even some Cranberries stuff, it all helps to keep the rust away, ha. Oh, I just finished reading an amazing book, 'Scar Tissue' by Anthony Kiedis. I had no Idea how fucked up that poor man was. I have the deepest admiration for him. To have gone through all that shit and fight back the way he has is truly inspirational. That's my news for now, I'll try not to leave it too long before my next update. Take care, Fergal.I hope he can finally find a band to play, he deserves that so bad!!! Salu2, Cranfandy
